raditionally speaking, the Urdu literature contains some wonderful travelogues like”Undalas mein ajnabi”, “K2 Kahani”, “Hunza Dastaan” and “Nanga Parbat” by Mustansar Husian Tarar. The travelogues give an immense idea on where the tourist traveled and what he observed.

Some informal Urdu travelogues written by Ibne Insha and Col. Mohammad Khan are “Chalte ho to Cheen ko Chalye”, “Ibne Batuta ke Taqab mein”, “Basalamat Ravi” and “ Bajang Amad”. Though these do not come under traditional travel books, but the writers quoted in a humorous way, what they observed in their travel to foreign countries. These never let you bored and differ somewhat from a safar nama.

The Urdu stories are again wonderful to read. Ahmed Nadeem Qasmi is famous for short stories like “Chopal” and a big collection of his short stories. His stories truly reflect deep culture of Punjab and are mostly about different topics. The most explored by him is the feudal system. The typical “Chopal”,”Lassi”, “gur ki tea” things are also found in his writings.

Though Ismat Chughtai is famous for writing short stories, her works are bolder and open. She wrote freely and boldly on some topics that no one could have written. She put in a new soul in the crushed and crippled woman of those times. She was of the view that a woman has an equal position in the society. The travel books have their own position in the literary world. The Urdu love poetry is a bit different from these.
